What UTM parameters do

UTM parameters are tags added to a URL that Google Analytics (and most other analytics platforms) use to identify where traffic came from: which source, which medium and which specific campaign.

Built directly in your browser

The URL is assembled locally using your browser's URL API as you fill in the fields — nothing is sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Which fields are required?

Only the website URL is required; utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign are the most commonly used, but any field left empty is simply omitted from the link.

What's the difference between utm_term and utm_content?

utm_term is typically used for paid search keywords, while utm_content differentiates similar content or links within the same ad or campaign, such as A/B test variants.

Will this change my existing URL parameters?

No, any parameters already present in the URL you paste are preserved; the tool only adds or updates the utm_ parameters.
