Strong Password Generator

Generate cryptographically random passwords and see, in real time, their entropy and an estimated time to crack them.

Strength: Very strongEntropy: 103.4 bits

Estimated time to crack (offline brute force): 20,506,245,471 millenniums

What makes a password strong

Password strength depends mostly on entropy: the number of possible combinations an attacker would have to try. Longer passwords with a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols dramatically increase that number, which is why length matters more than clever substitutions like "@" for "a".

Generated with real cryptographic randomness, locally

This tool uses your browser's window.crypto.getRandomValues API, the same cryptographically secure random number source used by security software, instead of JavaScript's regular (predictable) Math.random. The password is generated and displayed entirely on your device — it is never sent to any server.

Frequently asked questions

How is the crack time estimated?

We assume an offline attacker trying 10 billion guesses per second against the full combination space, then take half of that as the average time to find a match. Real-world numbers vary widely depending on the hashing algorithm and hardware used.

Is it safe to generate my banking password here?

Yes — the generation happens locally using a secure random source, and nothing is transmitted or stored. As with any password, save it in a trusted password manager afterward.

Why does removing symbols lower the strength so much?

Each character type you disable shrinks the pool of possible characters per position, which lowers the entropy exponentially as the password gets longer.
